Retreat schedule

On the arrival day settle into your room and relax in the grounds and enjoy the first meal and welcome meeting to talk about your 10 day holiday ahead of you.

Each day will follow the schedule below, with the day filled with a loose structure and whatever you feel like doing. There is a day off of yoga and that is the day trip to Galle followed by dinner out. On the last day, most people will leave before 9am and so the last yoga class is the night before.

Daily itinerary

8am – 9.30am: Yoga with the sun rising under the palms
9.30am: Delicious breakfast served in the pavilion
10.30am: The day is yours to explore the beach, the towns, the markets, enjoy excursions, have treatments and more
3pm: Afternoon Tea
4.30pm – 6pm: Evening yoga class
7.30pm: 3-course evening meal

Teacher

Chetana draws on many yoga styles and fuses it all together! She has a gift for feeling the energies and needs in the group, and shares her learnings and practice based on this. She has the ability to manage all levels, ages, abilities to create a class everyone benefits from. Over your 10 day holiday you can expect 3 hours of yoga a day. Morning Yoga Chetana is a diverse teacher who incorporates a combination of flow, traditional hatha based practice, acroyoga, thai yoga massage and sound healing to create truly energising and uplifting classes. Evening Yoga Expect a more restorative class, with focus on breath work, deep stretching and healing that will release tension, unwind body and mind and encourage you to let go of the layers that you are inadvertently holding onto. With Chetana’s teaching we are confident you will return home transformed: lighter, brighter and shinier and ready to take on life again.

Accommodation

Your accommodation is set back from the beach into the jungle. We love this because you get to see more of Sri Lanka and have the best of both worlds. The beach is a short 10 minute cycle or 5 minute Tuk Tuk ride away. The road to your retreat meanders along the river and you get a real feel for local Sri Lankan life as it bustles away with everyone getting on with their day to day. Sri Lankan people are so friendly it really feels special to share this with them.

Your retreat is comprised of a beautiful 150-year-old restored Dutch Colonial Villa and was formerly the colonial residence of Bentota’s Ayurvedic doctor before being transformed into a beautiful 6 bedroom boutique hotel.

Set in 4 acres of lush garden, it teems with wildlife such as monkeys and brightly coloured birds and trees and plants which were planted originally for use by the Ayurvedic Doctor. The lush lawns with palm trees, cinnamon trees, and fig trees surround the pavilion in the center of the grounds which acts as the relaxation and dining space. The pavilion is situated right next to the pool with loungers and towels. Doctors House: This is the original Dutch colonial bungalow that was built for the Ayurvedic Doctor as his home.

It has been sensitively restored to its former charm and consists of an open column verandah, living room with ornate arches and dining area with central courtyard reflection pond.
