The Royal Lancaster has a gym but if you prefer the outdoors it’s directly opposite Hyde Park so you can get your morning run in.

The fully equipped gym has Technogym™ treadmills, cross trainers, exercise bikes, a rowing machine, and designated weights section. It’s open to guests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you can fit it into your schedule at a time that suits you.

There is no spa, however their sister properties in London feature in-house spas which guests are welcome to use – the elegant Landmark in Marylebone and the fashionable K West. Or if you are into swimming and feeling brave you can take a swim in the famous Serpentine lake.

The hotel has recently undergone an £80-million renovation and has a new look, having been completely transformed both internally and externally. The entire frontage of the hotel was remodelled, and the exterior architecture now has an eight-meter high-glazed façade revealing a double-height reception space. The showpiece of the lobby is a staircase made of 3,229 square feet of white Carrara marble that wraps around to the first floor.

Great Northern Hotel

The hotel has a partnership both with Barry’s bootcamp and Nuffield health centre. Barry’s Bootcamp is located on Euston Road. Their signature hour-long workouts include interval cardio routines and strength training using a combination free-weights, resistance bands and medicine balls, enhanced by pumping playlists – no one class is ever the same.

The Nuffield Bloomsbury Gym offers a refurbished high-specification gym with personal training, 21m swimming pool with a sauna and steam room, swimming lessons, dedicated spin studio and Squash Courts. Daily classes range from Bodybalance, GRIT and Pilates to yoga and Zumba. Physiotherapist also available.

Designed by Victorian master builder Lewis Cubitt, the architect behind Kings Cross railway station, the Great Northern Hotel first opened in 1854. This was the golden age of steam with railway hotels seen as status symbols and the hotel soon became a Victorian landmark.

Now skilfully renovated, it is one of the finest luxury boutique hotels in London with is original Grade II-listed features evoking the glamour of its extraordinary past. The GNH is firmly entwined with both the history and the regeneration of this vibrant London neighbourhood.

We loved the unique pantries that are on every floor – giving guests unlimited access, offer smooth Nespressos, homemade cakes, cookies and sweets.

  • The hotels restaurant Plum & Spilt Milk  serves excellent food in with a few very tasty vegetarian options that can also be made vegan.
  • Got a trip to Paris planned on the Eurostar? Then hotel is directly opposite, great if you have an early morning start.
  • Go for a walk along Regents Canal. The area around Kings Cross has been developed over the last few years and there’s plenty of lovely bars and restaurants around Granary Wharf.

The Ned
