Description

An exciting and mind blowing yoga holiday in north Iceland. A destination on everyone’s bucket list! Iceland is a destination everyone wants to go to at least once in their lifetime, so we have decided to create our very own adventure yoga holiday in Iceland and we would love you to join us.

Begin your yoga adventure by taking an internal flight to Akuyeri which is north west Iceland where you will stay for 6 days.

Away from the main tourist centre around Reykjavik and with its mild climate, situated on the longest fjord in the country and its close proximity to the Arctic Circle, makes Akuyeri a must see destination. Akuyeri is known as one of Iceland’s best kept secrets.

We have created a jam packed schedule for you to see as much of this stunning landscape as possible on your stay, and then relax with two yoga classes a day to revive and revitalise.

Visit majestic landscapes, take a ferry to an energetic island, ride Icelandic horses or watch whales, visit famous waterfalls, take secret hikes off the beaten path, explore volcanic craters and geothermic natural baths.

All of this is a part of this exhilarating yoga holiday in awe-inspiring Iceland. And guess what? All the above is included in the price!

Iceland is most widely known for its glaciers, volcanoes, hot springs and dramatic volcanic landscape. It is the most sparsely populated country in Europe with only 360,000 inhabitants. It is the land of light and darkness with the famous aurora in winter and the midnight sun in summer with 24 hours of sunlight.

We love the idea of a yoga holiday in Iceland because it is the second-best environmentally friendly country in the world after Finland. Even though they are very free with their heating (as it is considered their luxury item as it is so cold and dark a lot of the time) they get their heat source from the 800 hot springs throughout this volcanic island.

Iceland is an expensive destination to go to, but with its uniqueness to any other country on the planet and with it being on everyone’s bucket list to visit at least once (maybe twice, summer for midnight sun and winter for the aurora), it is something that you have to just accept and go with it as a once in a lifetime experience.

On our adventure in Iceland, you are staying away from the touristy south of the island and will be experiencing the raw nature in the northeast. We highly recommend staying in Reykjavik the night before the retreat so the journey can be part of the adventure.

Accommodation

Your accommodation for your 5 night yoga holiday in Iceland is a collection of apartments situated in the small town of Akureyri in the north east corner of Iceland. This hidden gem of a town is typical Icelandic and you will get the opportunity to explore.

Each apartment has 2 -3 bedrooms that can be twin or double rooms. 3 of the apartments share a bathroom and 1 apartment has two rooms wit their own bathrooms. Each apartment provides tea and coffee and has a kitchen for your breakfast snack supplies and any daytime snacks you wish to buy.

They also have a sitting area and a hot tub in the garden, so you can enjoy a midnight sun hot tub!

Cuisine

We believe that our retreats should be nurturing in every way. So our Vitality Chefs will create tasty, healthy, vegetarian meals for you from local, seasonal produce. All of our food is gently detoxing and we cater to various dietary preferences.

Our guests are always impressed by our creative, flavoursome dishes — that’s because the food is just as important to us as the yoga. For the new year we indulge in a 4-course supper with mocktails and canapes for that extra special evening. We bring our own chefs with us who all have their own individual flair and genius to produce high-quality vegetarian dishes. We offer fresh, local, seasonal and nutritious meals.

Airport transfers

Transfer OUT

The transfer from Akureyri is at 5.30pm to pick up the flight arriving at this time from Reykjavik. There are two flights prior to this one from Reykjavik if you wish to take one of these instead. It takes 5 minutes in a taxi from Akureyri airport to the town and you can be picked up in the town at 5.20pm.

Transfer RTN

Is scheduled for the 08.25 flight in the morning of the last day. You can book a later flight but have to cover your taxi.

If you are travelling from another country other than the UK we can assist any travel queries you might have.

We recommend: Staying in Reykjavik the day before to enjoy the sites there and then pick up the domestic flight the next day so that you can enjoy the journey in this interesting and magical country.

Internal travel by bus:
You can travel from Reykjavik overland by bus to Akureyri. This takes longer but is very scenic and you get a great feel for the landscape and country – and is a part of your adventure! It is also cheaper. Find out more here about the bus timetable
