Autumn is a beautiful time to be in the Brecon Beacons and to join us on our autumn mid-week hiking yoga retreat. Stay in comfort, hike with qualified guides, unwind with yoga and relax by the fire.

This November, join us for a mid-week yoga retreat for 4 nights, 5 days Monday – Friday, staying in a family-owned multi-property estate. Dating back to 1176, it was originally a farm serving the local monastery. Since then, it has had stunning renovations to create a beautiful retreat space.

Why not stay in one of the main barns? Or maybe, try out a quirky converted wheat silo, perfect for two people. Either way, you will enjoy lots of space and room options.

Of course, get your hiking boots ready to enjoy a guided hike with qualified guides on one day of the retreat. On another day try horse riding, more hiking or visit the delightful Hay on Wye for the afternoon.

Want to fully relax? You could curl up in front of the open fire and read a good book in one of the many sitting rooms available. Truly, you will feel rested and restored, ready for winter.

With up to 4 hours of yoga a day, delicious vegan food from one of our fabulous chefs and gorgeous accommodation you will feel cared for throughout.

If you love to be in the Welsh countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, rivers, streams, nature and peace and quiet this is the right yoga retreat for you.

With the closest town being Brecon, you are in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. About 3 1/2 hrs from London or 1 1/2 hrs from Bristol, take time out of your busy schedule to really relax, and restore body and mind in this healing space.

You can choose to be as active or relaxed as you like on this yoga retreat, enjoy the free guided hike on the Saturday and then enjoy the grounds of the retreat to relax in on the Sunday.

Or choose from a variety of activities in the surrounding area, there are a multitude of walks or hikes on offer. For those who want even more activity, try kayaking, mountain biking, horse riding climbing.

Located close to the literacy town of Hay-On-Wye, the property was once part of the farm serving a Cistercian monastery founded in 1176. Steeped in history the individual barns and buildings have been lovingly restored and updated to create a stunning home from home space.

Beautiful gardens create a multitude of private oases to relax in spread across the 4 individual buildings, each with their very own unique style and character, that we inhabit during our stay.

We have a choice of 6 single rooms with double beds and an ensuite bathroom, 3 single rooms with double beds with shared bathroom with 1 other room, a twin room with its own bathroom and a twin room with a shared bathroom with one other room. The Wheat Silo is a quirky accommodation for two people sharing a double bed and it has its own kitchen, bathroom and living space and stunning views of the Brecon Beacons.

The yoga studio is a beautiful, long barn conversion full of natural light and double doors that open up into the inner courtyard and the valleys beyond.

Bess Shipside
Bess teaches a hatha flow based asana practice but comes more from “how does that feel” rather than precise alignment based practices. Connecting the heart to the body and mind through physical movement and the breath and infusing mantra and affirmations in each class be ready to be taken on a transformative journey.

Bess is a passionate and knowledgeable yogi whose playful, focused and flowing Hatha classes seek to honour the present moment by creating a grounded connection to the spiritual heart.

Bess has been practicing yoga with intent since her first teacher training in 2010. Travelling solo to India on a journey of discovery she finally found a path that resonated – one that offers both peace and purpose while embracing creativity, strength and unification.

She continues her exploration through a dedicated self practice, regular varied training and offers classes daily in London as-well as teaching internationally.

Bess’ classes offer a balance of movement and mediation and are laced with pranayama ( breath-work), mudra ( gesture), bandha ( energetic locks) and mantra.

Philosophy and anatomy are linked in a practical and inspiring way that deepens the experience and brings a fuller understanding of yoga in relation to each session and beyond. Encouraging an open and inquisitive atmosphere, Bess invites you to travel at your own pace, get fully involved in the process of feeling and to trust in the experience of letting go.

Bess would like to thank and honour her teachers Elizabeth Garvey of London Fields Yoga, Sajaveen A.M of Santhi School of Yoga, Tara Stiles & Mike Taylor of Strala NYC, Dulcie and Jamie of The Yoga People, Shiva Rea and Yogapura Rod Stryker for their inspiration, input and wisdom.

All of our retreat chefs are highly experienced and passionate about their craft. We have always been a vegan/vegetarian company! Expect delicious and creative brunch, lunch, and 2-course evening meal. Each meal will be balanced to keep you energised all day.

Our chef is Nafia Harding. With a flare for the colourful, Nafias culinary creations are as beautiful as they are absolutely delicious! Nutritionally balanced, plant-based and from the heart you will leave each meal feeling satisfied in every way.

Alongside teaching yoga, Nafia is also an amazing plant-based chef and feels blessed to be able to incorporate her two passions so seamlessly on retreats. Her interest in food goes way further than Yoga, to when she was a child. Being raised by a single working mother, she spent much time in the kitchen preparing family meals with her siblings and through this, developed a love of food.

There’s nothing more she loves than to be in the kitchen experimenting, creating, playing with different flavour combinations to ultimately bring joy to those she is catering for with food that is interesting, tasty, and above all nutritious!

After undertaking training at the prestigious cookery school Leith’s in London, Nafia completed advanced raw food courses and has assisted top raw food chefs and Retreat organisers.

Nafia believes it is this diversity in what she does that fuels her drive and keeps her forever fascinated and absorbed in the food world.

Above all, she believes that yoga and food are the perfect marriage – as if extending her yoga practice to the table! Every meal created reflects the values she upholds through yoga, providing not only excellent taste but also nourishment for the mind and body.
