Autumn Hiking and Yoga Retreat in the Lake District

Autumn is such a beautiful time to experience a hiking and yoga retreat in the Lake District. The colours are turning from a vibrant green to hues of red, orange and soft browns. It is one of our favourite times of the year to visit as the crowds are gone and it takes on a slower pace of life. This year is also in half term so for all you teachers this one is also for you!

Our venue in the Lake District is perfectly set up to manage the coronavirus safety measures because it is a hotel / B&B so all rooms are en-suite, the food is all provided by the venue and it is cleaned on a regular basis. The yoga shala is beautiful and we are staggering the yoga classes in two groups but this won’t detract from your retreat experience. It can suit early birds and people who like to sleep a little longer!

With our qualified and very experienced mountain guide Mark on hand to lead the day hike on Friday, and your yoga teacher to lead a more gentle yet equally as stunning walk to Tarn Howes directly from our retreat centre, immerse yourself in nature and feel the benefits of this, being away from the frenetic and urban landscape of your day to day living. Take a packed lunch and just sit and watch the world go by, or enjoy a bit of forest bathing and meditation.

After a day’s excursions, unwind with evening yin and yoga Nidra followed by a vegan and vegetarian feast.

This hiking and yoga retreat in the Lake District is suitable for those who love more dramatic countryside experience, love hiking or being active. If you have never been hiking before that’s ok, but just bring suitable clothing and be prepared to be active! Men and women are welcome as well as solo travellers, couples, and friends.


There are 13 luxury ensuite bedrooms in the main house with a choice of standard and superior suites which are freshly decorated in a traditional/contemporary style. Each room has a bath or walk in shower and crisp linen. The public rooms of the house are there for you to relax in.

There’s always a quiet corner to stretch out in, and in the colder months a wood burning stove will keep you toasty warm. The house invites you to borrow their selection of books.


We believe that our retreats should be nurturing in every way. So our Vitality Chefs will create tasty, healthy, vegetarian meals for you from local, seasonal produce.

All of our food is gently detoxing and we cater to various dietary preferences. Our guests are always impressed by our creative, flavoursome dishes — that’s because the food is just as important to us as the yoga.


Our classes for our yoga retreat in the Lake District are really special, with natural light coming into the purpose-built, high ceiling yoga shala overlooking the mountains.

There will be two staggered yoga classes for each yoga session scheduled to accommodate the group in order to follow the guidelines of social distancing. The yoga teacher will create a more dynamic class in the morning to get you ready for the days hike and the evening class will be slightly longer to enable deep relaxation with yoga nidra.


Nafia Harding
Nafia teaches in a way that promotes thought and meaning, letting the student experience for themselves while catering for all abilities and striving to create a relaxed and welcoming environment.

An all-round lover of life and all it has to offer! Nafia is a mother to 3 self-sufficient teenagers, a yoga instructor, and a plant-based chef.

After finding Yoga in 2003 where she was instantly hooked and quickly realised how great it made her feel. With experience in many styles from traditional Hatha, Ashtanga and Iyengar, Nafia soon realised her passion was for Vinyasa. The love of the energetic aspect of a vinyasa class, synchronising breath with movement, and linking individual poses to create a flowing meditation.

Yoga has become very much a way of life for Nafia and she has enjoyed discovering the wider “off the mat” aspects just as much as the physical sequences. It was through personal extensive study and experience of the life-changing, profound benefits of yoga that prompted her to train and gain a 200h Yoga Alliance certification in 2015.

Inspired by her teachers, peers, and travels Nafia aims to bring unique empowerment to each class. Through intention, meditation, pranayama and asana her goal is to have you leave each class feeling strong, mobile, refreshed, and renewed.

Retreat schedule

Your hiking yoga retreat starts from 3pm on the Thursday with the first yoga class at 4.30pm and 6pm. We are offering staggered yoga class times to accommodate the whole group in a socially distanced way during COVID.

On the last day, there will be yoga from 7.30am – 8.45am and 9am – 10.15am, followed by brunch at 9am and 10.15am and departure time is from 11am.

Friday and Saturday follow the daily schedules opposite.

Due to the coronavirus we have reduced numbers for a more intimate retreat experience. We ow have more single rooms available and if you travel with someone from your household a twin room is possible.

A twin/double room is for two people sharing either two single beds or a double bed. ONLY book the twin/double room if you are two people from the same household who want to share. If this option isn’t available on the website please email us to ask for availability.

How to get here

By car
The nearest town to the retreat is Hawkshead in Cumbria which is about a 5 hour drive from London.

By Train
The nearest station is Windermere. It’s about 9 miles from the retreat. The journey from London is about 4 hours. We have recommended train times below. Please book these trains/or similar times if coming from a different direction, so that we can organise a taxi share for you and and save you some money. If trains are booked in advance the fares start at £47 return.
