Marrakech + Sahara Desert Yoga & Art Retreat
On this 8 day Marrakech + Sahara Desert Yoga and Art retreat, we’ll first enjoy the bustling city, discovering its souks and artisan crafts throughout the medina and then we’ll head out to the Sahara desert for a few nights under the stars.
You will visit and ancient Kasbah, or fortress village as well as engage with our Berber women’s textile co-op community partner to learn about artisan textile traditions.
Our artisan producer partners use natural dying methods for textiles, using spices and herbs such as saffron and indigo. They also craft by hand and play an important role in their community.
Local experiences include a traditional sand-oven cooking class in the desert, as well as cultural education about traditions, artisanship and the Moroccan way of life.
We work with our local hotel partners to ensure fresh, locally sourced breakfasts and we visit locally owned restaurants that prioritise regional cuisine such as olive oil, local breads and figs.
Our group is limited to 12 people, and bookings are based on double occupancy. Single rooms are available for an additional fee.
Throughout the trip we’ll have two daily yoga classes, either indoors or on a lovely terrace.
Arrive in Marrakech by 4 p.m. and transfer to your riad style accommodations complete with vibrant tilework and atrium gardens.
Rest up, meet your roommate, and join for our Welcome Dinner to meet your guides for the week. We’ll close out our evening with a grounding post-travel flow & meditation.
After yoga & breakfast we’ll head out to our Sahara Desert excursion. We’ll stop at the striking Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage listed city that once had a prominent position in the trans-Saharan trade route.
You’ll have the whole afternoon for exploring its shops, cafés and walking streets.
We’ll stay just outside the village in the evening where we’ll enjoy a grounding flow and a fabulous Moroccan dinner.
After yoga & breakfast we’ll get back in the van for our next destination across the Atlas Mountains.
We’ll arrive at the dunes mid-day with plenty of stops for photos & food and will ride camels the rest of the way in to our Berber camp.
We’ll stretch out with yoga before an incredible desert meal and campfire against a backdrop of stars & traditional Moroccan music.
After sunrise yoga & breakfast, the day is yours to choose your desert adventure! Stay at camp to relax or get out and hike or dune surf.
Or, you can join for our desert hike to an oasis where we’ll learn to make a meal in a sand oven! We’ll gather in the evening for yoga, dinner and another night of music under the stars.
After yoga & breakfast, we’ll say depart from our desert camp and hop back on camels to our vehicles.
From there we’ll head to our community partner, a Berber women’s textile co-op where we’ll learn about crafting traditions that these women preserve while boosting the livelihoods of women throughout the country.
After lunch we’ll head back to Marrakech and do an evening grounding yoga before dinner.
After an energizing morning flow & breakfast, we’ll start our explorations of Marrakech’s vibrant souks (markets) and see some of the city’s landmark sites including the Moorish Medersa ben Youssef, the opulent Bahia Palace and the picturesque Jewish Quarter.
You’ll visit the infamous Jemaa el Fna and have time in the afternoon for your own explorations before evening dinner & yoga.
We’ll follow yoga & breakfast today with a special visit to a hammam, or spa, where you’ll soak in the baths and receive a scrub treatment and have options for massage.
The rest of the day is yours for shopping & exploring before evening yoga and our farewell dinner.
We’ll offer extra early yoga this morning before departures to the airport.

April 2018: Angelena Stokes-Wickersham
Angelena’s love for yoga began a decade ago when she started it as away to stretch her body and support her active lifestyle of hiking & surfing in Hawaii, where she grew up.
Over the years, yoga became a healing practice where Angelena found she was able to find space for herself, listen to her body’s needs and stay present through constant change.
Angelena’s classes focus heavily on alignment, breath technique and self-awareness and often end with a short mindfulness meditation and singing bowls.
We can provide vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options; however, due to the nature of this itinerary and local cultural customs we cannot guarantee no cross-contamination in all circumstances.
