This is where it all started! In Bali back in 2010. Come and celebrate our 10-year retreat anniversary with us. Join us for a delicious week of Pilates and Yoga, for a reunion of friends and family, for an opportunity to unleash your ‘Life in Movement’.
Mareile Paley, Tash Barnard and a few more of our favourite teachers will lead a retreat to remember. Spots are limited, so sign up early for your spot in your authentic Balinese Villa. This retreat is one of our most popular, even amongst our teachers! Every two years we return to the island of gods for our Bali fix.
Exercise besides, of course there will be plenty of time to explore the natural and cultural wonders of Bali itself, be it the beaches, the temples, an evening walk through the rice fields or the creative bustle of Ubud’s shop-lined alleys.
We will stay at the dream that is Desa Seni, surrounded by paddy fields and an organic garden, our home for the week will be the much sought after Desa Seni Village Resort in Changgu. Created by two Australian friends, the eco-resort is a labour of love and a hand-picked collection of beautiful antique wooden homes and traditional furnishings, representing different cultures and traditions of Indonesian lifestyle.
Each villa has its own style and character and the attention to detail is remarkable. It might take you the week to discover all the little details and treasures your cosy home has to offer.
There is a saltwater pool with a sundeck, an organic restaurant supplied from the on-site garden, and a spa offering holistic treatments.
There are grassy pathways and hidden gazebos and lots of space to live and breathe and laugh and be. And of course, there is our beautiful outdoor Yoga studio that we will be using for the classes and workshops. You might not want to leave, but in case you do need a break, the closest beach is just 15 minutes away and easily reached by tuktuk, taxi or bicycle.
Pilates Retreat Asia’s retreats are meant to be fun and rejuvenating, so we design our schedules with the aim to find the perfect balance between exercise, organised group activities and time for yourself.
A typical retreat day starts with a morning Pilates or Yoga class followed by a healthy breakfast. Private sessions are usually taught before lunch and the afternoons are free for you to relax, explore or take a spa treatment. Our evening class is in the late afternoon, leaving enough time before dinner to refresh and get changed.
Meals are typically, (but not necessarily) taken together and we will do our best to cater to special dietary needs. On some days we might have an excursion planned (included or optional, depending on the retreat) and we usually have one or two longer, specialised movement workshop (lasting 2-3 hrs) during the retreat week.
Just keep in mind: whatever the programme, this is your week, so you’re encouraged to take the time you need, go at your own speed, and try and let go – whether that means diving in deep into the movement practice, or taking a day to rest and relax. Our hope is for you to cherish the time with yourself (or with friends) in a magical setting away from the daily grind.
Tracy Sue du Plessis
Tracy Sue has a uniqueness to her teaching as she is not only a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher but she is also a Certified Classical Pilates Teacher. She does not come from a dance background or a sporty background whatsoever, so everything that she has achieved in her physicality starting in her 30’s has come with hard work, discipline and dedication which is the passion you experience when you are taught by Tracy Sue.
Although she does not combine the disciplines she will not deny the expertise of knowledge from one to the other as her philosophy is to use her knowledge gained from both disciplines to suit the client’s needs and better their wellbeing.
Tash embarked on a career in Pilates after graduating with honours in the Cecchetti Ballet and IDTA Modern Dance methods in 2000. Tash studied the BASI Pilates® method directly under Rael Isacowitz and Kristi White and was qualified as a BASI Instructor in 2001.
Since then, Tash has experienced the power of BASI worldwide, working and teaching in London, Dubai, Salzburg and Hong Kong whilst becoming a member of the BASI Faculty in the interim.
Tash has settled in a growing coastal town called Ballito in her home country which is South Africa with her husband, Andre (a well-respected chiropractor whom she works closely with), and two children. Along with other BASI loyalists Tash has managed to build a very strong and focused Pilates community through running her own successful Pilates Studio and lecturing workshops and courses for BASI South Africa.
Tash currently has a growing number of appearances as a guest instructor on Pilates Anytime and is the only qualified Core Fitness Roller instructor in South Africa. As a caring instructor and lecturer with an immense amount of energy and real passion for the work, Tash strives for continued improvement both personally and professionally with a focus on achieving results.
Tash has an incredible faith which fires her vision of being able to share Pilates with as many people as she possibly can – all over the world. Tash’s vision is manifesting in numerous ways, such as leading Pilates Retreats in Indonesia and Turkey under Pilates Retreat Asia.
This forum has enabled Tash to ground the concept of making connections beyond the physical and instructing holistically.
The delightful Yoga resort hosts a tiny restaurant with an extremely healthful and delcious menu. Meat is available (chicken), but we will mostly serve vegetarian and vegan options. Most of the ingredients used come from their own organic garden, which is integral part of the resort.
Shared Village House
Stay in one of Desa Seni’s unique Indonesian village homes and feel like you’ve truly arrived in paradise. Each house is a little different and we love them all. Some overlook the organic gardens or the pool, others have a private porch or a gazebo in the garden. All villas have aircon and private bathrooms and most are spacious enough to share even with someone you don’t know.
Single Village Home
For more privacy, chose to have your villa all to yourself. Read a book on your porch or invite one of your newly found friends to join you for a fresh ginger lemon tea. As all houses can be converted into twin shares, you will find yourself with ample space in your new Balinese home.
