Yoga and Photography Retreat on the Isle of Ponza, Italy
Have you ever wondered if there is a still a pocket of Italy as yet undiscovered by travellers? A pocket, moreover, that encloses dramatic mountain scenery and golden beaches? A protected place that has kept the coast pristine and the hills a reserve for rare plants and birds? And all an easy two hour train and boat ride from Rome? Well wonder no more – we will take you to a place where legends are made on this yoga and photography retreat.
Mythology meets nature on the mythical island of Ponza. Famed for its role in Homer’s Greek epic – The Odyssey, this jagged gem is where Ulysses and his men, returning from Troy, are lured by the enchanting sorceress Circe to her palace for a year-long stay of luxury and leisure. Circe continues to cast her intoxicating spell drawing us to her opulent shores for an indulgent week of yoga and personal discovery.
As well as being a beautiful place to stretch the body, Ponza also offers a myth-rich environment to inspire the imagination. In three two-hour photography sessions with our creative and inspired photographer, Jeremy Turner; you will explore the nature of the mythic imagination and the way it shapes our lives; we will explore the landscape and light of Aiaia (the ancient name of the island) as told by Homer in the Odyssey. The work you take home will provide both a vivid record of the retreat and a lively stimulus to further pursue the wider adventure of your life.
In the verdant heart of the Ponte Islands is the pretty pastel coloured waterfront town of Ponza. Up a winding road we find our picturesque Boutique Hotel – Chiaia di Luna – where we nestle in for our relaxing week. Here we breathe in the fresh sea air and soak up the sunshine while gazing over the volcanic sister islands.
Everyone falls in love with the enchanting view over this beach (“chiaja” in Neapolitan dialect). It could be the crescent shape from which it gets its name, it could be the splendour of the white and yellow tuff cliffs overhanging the sea, it could be the crystal clear water or the breathtaking view from where you can enjoy one of Ponza’s most beautiful sunsets.
It is here that our family-run hotel stands, with its lavish style, smiles and courtesy. 2000 square metres of terraces perched over the sea, saltwater pool, panoramic restaurant and rooms with sea views
Private Room and Twin/Double Room. View details and image gallery here.
Lisa Dunn – Yoga teacher
A believer in following your dreams, this mother of three left a successful career as a documentary producer at the BBC in London to pursue a passion for yoga.
Keen to share the liberating effect this 15-year practice had on her life, Lisa became a certified yoga instructor and has been a well-loved teacher for 8 years now.
Her journey has taken her all over the world, most recently Suryalila Yoga Retreat Centre in Spain where she is a yoga teacher trainer for Frog Lotus Yoga International.
Lisa’s heart-centered approach is a reflection of her radiant personality. She brings a fresh and faithful eye to time-honored traditions and draws on the universal teachings of yoga, both on and off the mat. With an emphasis on the breath and intelligent flow sequencing, her classes are crafted to empower her students to develop their practice, and have a safe life-long yoga experience.
Jeremy Turner – Photographer
Jeremy Turner started photography when he was 10, and won a school photography competition without ever really understanding why. So after years of learning by trial and error, he started to study photography seriously a few years ago with the Centro Sperimentale di Fotografia in Rome, as well as courses in USA (Ansel Adams, Yosemite) and India (Light Chasers Academy), and photography moved from a hobby to a passion. He doesn’t totally specialise in any particular genre because he enjoys them all – it depends on where he is, and the mood he’s in.
And he loves talking about photography and exchanging efforts and sharing constructive criticism. He also enormously enjoys helping people improve their technique, whether it’s through the technical mastery of their camera or the composition and framing of the shot. But in the end, photography is a medium of communication, and one that photographers can (and should) develop tirelessly.
He retired a few years ago from the United Nations. In addition to his work as photographer, he also enjoy travel, trekking and sailing. He’s married with 6 fantastic children, and he’s continually seeking new challenges. He’s English, and lives mainly in Rome and Budapest.

What past guests have said
”One of the most rejuvenating and energizing experiences I have had at a yoga retreat. It came at just the right time in my life where I needed to gather my body and my mind as I’m preparing for some new breakthroughs in my career, and Lisa’s skillful instruction over the course of the days that I was at the retreat were so refreshing.
The exercises allowed me to explore parts of my body that I had not tapped into yet. I was able to meet and connect with so many wonderful women who I trust will become lifelong friends.” Nicole Crowder ~ Washington DC
”No part of me was deprived on this retreat – in fact every molecule was entirely nourished, lifted and expanded. Days rolled with a luxurious elegance from start to finish, and yet I didn’t feel over-fussed. I loved the early meditation and yoga starts with Lisa, whose attentive care continued unbounded throughout the day.
The focus is on balance, so there is no deprivation, more a relaxed and generous attitude allowing you to kick back with pappa pomodoro at lunch and an aperitivo at sundown, all enrobed by rolling Tuscan splendour. With a dream-like, wafting quality, as if it is too good to be true, you will return feeling you have been thoroughly transported and spoiled.” Connie Allfrey ~ London, UK
”A truly luxurious way to boost your energy, rejuvenate your body and explore a country without organizing anything yourself, is to go on one of Lisa Dunn’s yoga retreats. Spoil yourself and find out how to combine yoga with wine during an all-inclusive well-being holiday. It is not only a treat for yourself but also the perfect solo vacation package.
